Wall of Silence

About this documentary

One of our team worked as the investigative researcher on this hard-hitting documentary, which told the story of how former professional football coach Barry Bennell subjected young players to years of systemic abuse.

Bennell was one of the most highly-regarded talent scouts in the country, who recruited young stars for the likes of Manchester City and Stoke City.

But for at least a decade he subjected up to a hundred young children to horrific sexual abuse, blighting their lives and forcing some of his victims to suicide. Bennell is currently serving a 34-year-sentence for his crimes.

The film was a collaborative project between Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit and Channel 4’s Dispatches and won a Gold Medal in the New York Festivals TV & Film Award and was nominated for a BAFTA
